Accessing abortion

An abortion, or termination of pregnancy, is a procedure to end a pregnancy. It is ended either by taking medicine or having a surgical procedure. Abortions are safer the earlier they are carried out. Getting advice early gives you more time to decide if you’re unsure.

Abortion is legal in Northern Ireland and abortion services are available across Northern Ireland.

The type of service available depends on the stage of the pregnancy.

Information about accessing abortion services and support is available at NIDirect – Abortion services | nidirect

The decision to have an abortion is yours alone. If you need support with considering your options when faced with an unplanned or crisis pregnancy, non-directive pregnancy choices counselling is available. The Accessing Pregnancy Counselling – Informing Choices NI has up-to-date information and contact details on how to access support and counselling.
