Getting tested for HIV
If you're worried you could have HIV, it’s important to get tested now.
If you do have HIV, getting tested means you can begin treatment to help reduce damage to your body and health.
You can also reduce the risk of passing HIV on to others.
Where can I get an HIV test?
In Northern Ireland, you can get a free HIV test and receive comprehensive medical care and support:
- at a genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinic;
- from your GP.
You can also:
- use a free HIV testing service in a non-clinical venue provided by trained staff in local voluntary organisations
- carry out the HIV test yourself – from early 2016, it will be possible to buy HIV self-testing kits.
